Preflight Checklisting

Five days until I was set to leave and once again it’s work, work, work. Getting ready for a trip can be frazzling. I was racking my brain for anything I may have forgotten. I was in the midst of moving out of my apartment and into storage. I was selling everything that was unnecessary or would otherwise be a pain to move. I knew, of course, that I was forgetting something. It’s always in your mind and you can’t stop the truth of the forgetfulness from coming out later at the worst time, like when you are about to change the flat tire and then you realize you didn’t put the wrench that fits the front axle in the tool kit. At least it’s not like my first trip where I almost didn’t get my title in time to leave the country. That was bad.

A lot of people asked me if I was excited. I was really too busy to be excited yet, but I knew from experience I would be as soon as I hit the road. I know that a gallery of going-away-party shots on the internet is gratuitously self-indulgent, particularly for just my second blog, but I seem to lack an abstemious gene in my ‘nome. So enjoy the pics of me and some of my wasted friends.

Although Ilya and Dustin look kind of strange in the bottom part of this photo, I can assure they are in fact flaming heterosexuals.
